Ottawa County Public Health

Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) Notice

At this time, OCDPH does not have a recommendation to postpone, reschedule or cancel outdoor activities because there have been no local animal or human cases in Ottawa County. However, out of an abundance of caution, Ottawa County residents or organizations may consider postponing, rescheduling or canceling outdoor activities. At this time, Ottawa County is not participating in mosquito spraying for EEE because Ottawa County has no local animal or human EEE cases. We will keep the public informed as information becomes available.

We do however encourage everyone to follow the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services recommendations to reduce the risk between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes that carry EEE virus are most active:

• Apply insect repellent prior to spending time outdoors. If you choose to apply insect repellent to your elementary student, please do so prior to the start of the school day.

• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors. Apply insect repellent to clothing to help prevent bites.

• Empty water from mosquito breeding sites around the home, such as buckets, unused kiddie pools, old tires or similar sites where mosquitoes may lay eggs.

• Be aware of the signs of EEE and contact your doctor immediately, should your student experience any symptoms.

• Other precautions to be taken at home, in addition to all of the above, include: o Maintain window and door screening to help keep mosquitoes outside; o Use nets and/or fans over outdoor eating areas.

Parking @ Hudsonville LL Port Sheldon Complex

Hudsonville LL and AYSO have been working on ways to improve parking and addressing safety as well.  There are new measures being taken to address the safety of the kids and adults exiting the parking lot and heading towards the fields.

Boulders are being installed in the grass islands as there is not supposed to be any parking on them.  This is to help with visibility as people come out of the parking lot.  DO NOT park outside of the boulders or in the grass along the rail fences.

Below are pictures of overflow areas of parking.

The Ottawa County Building is also a source of overflow parking.

Another source of overflow parking for Saturdays is Spectrum Health Georgetown Physicians (3152 Port Sheldon St.)  Use the bike/walking path into the complex.  The distance from this parking lot to Meijer and Vitale's Field is the same as walking from the east end of the parking lot.

For player drop off, Hudsonville LL did install a drop off for players at the southwest end of the parking lot.  The easiest way to access this is to drive to the east end of the parking lot and then enter the drop off.  A picture below as well.

Thank You

Friday Practices

Fields that are used for games on Saturdays are unable to be used for any practices on Fridays.

Due to daylight restraints, most field prep is done on Friday nights.  The fields to be available to the field crews, and prepped fields should not be practiced on (even if just a batting practice).

Thanks
